December 2018 Full Moon in Cancer: The Churning Ocean’s Glint
As a celebratory effulgence, the Full Moon succeeds the departure of the lengthiest winter night. The waxing glint’s culmination occurs as Saturn’s two domiciles, Capricorn and Aquarius, oppose the domiciles of the luminaries. The Crab’s cascade of fluidic light cleanses the year’s darkest solstice, impregnating earth with the seed-essence of microcosmic spirit. Symbolic of the mother liquor or nutritive fluid from which all forms proceed, the full Moon in Cancer heralds the regenerative power of the unseen creative spirit.
In the first decan of the Crab, the spirit’s children, or Twins, are garbed in corporeal vessels. Referenced by Ptolemy, Cancer’s first decan witnesses “the head of the first and second Twins, and the posterior part of the first Twin and his hands…” At 0°49′ Cancer, barely clutching the first arc minutes of Luna’s domicile, The Crab’s first decan surveys the ascension of Castor and Pollux (the Twins’ constellation), alluding to the perceptual acuity and crafstmanship noted by Agrippa. Likewise, the crustacean’s amorous qualities are envisioned by Agrippa as “the form of a young Virgin, adorned with fine cloathes [clothes], and having a Crown on her head; it giveth acuteness of senses, subtilty [subtlety] of wit, and the love of men..” Picatrix’s description parallels Agrippa’s notation of critical perception and mercurial mastery, forged as the “face of teaching, knowledge, subtlety, and of skills.”
Combining Ptolemy’s description with Agrippa and the Picatrix, the children of spirit (Twins) newly emerge in Luna’s domicile, attired with material forms, corpuscles, or bodies. In Cancer, the productile home of the great mother, nature’s eternal recreative force merges spirit and matter.
The Full Moon in Cancer conjoins fixed star Betelgeuse, the potent star at the arm of Orion. Ptolemy attributes Betelgeuse, along with the remaining stars of and near Orion’s shoulders, to the qualities of Mars and Mercury. The position of Betelgeuse, in the right shoulder of the ‘god’, is said to be indicative of clarity and fortitude. Along with its companion stars of the Orion constellation, Betelgeuse begets success, and those influenced by it are considered effective, brilliant and successful.  Again, of the Orion constellation, the cluster is associated with martial honor by Robson, while Ebertin notes fortune and triumph. When conjoined with the Moon, this bright red star promotes humanitarian efforts, aspiring to improve the quality of people’s lives.

At 0’49° Cancer-Capricorn, the luminaries’ critical degrees are punctuated, as the angular Sun approaches Saturn, and situates upon the tenth. The Sun’s passage from Sagittarius to Capricorn is freshly forged, heralding Saturn’s stoic enthronement. The luminary opposition, Saturn’s traditional aspect, is a cautionary calibration between spirit and matter. Subterraneous Luna, concealed in the nethermost depths, precisely beholds the Saturnian Sun, as both luminaries polarize the cycles of impulse and intent.
Contrasting the prior two lunations, the Full Moon in Cancer is free from the Moon-Mars square. Luna begins to separate from her sextile to Uranus, translating experiences into ideas, as Saturn’s stoicism concretizes the technical structure for this transit’s fruition. In the backdrop, this lunation’s closest aspect is the Venus-Neptune trine, the origin of creative cultivation. The mind’s spatial liberty is accessible; cerebral composition of abstract concepts is afforded the freedom to tangibly originate.
The Full Moon in Cancer surveys the passage of the lengthiest winter night, bestowing her regenerative effulgence to the microcosmic spirit. Nearly cognizant of astrology’s impartial equilibrium, her silver orb symbolically mediates the solstice and, come December’s closure, the ingress of Mars into his diurnal domicile. While both benefics were simultaneously in their domiciles last month, this month’s terminal applies the same trajectory to the malefics. The Cancerian Full Moon, then, as the cleansing grace and maternal liquor of the creative essence, marries the hemispheres of spirit and matter.
October’s Luna illuminates the Venusian constellation of the Bull, heralding the descent of Spirit into matter, clothed in forms and qualities for evolution of natural phenomena. Consciousness seeks the solidity of the strewing soil, spirit grasps the roots of the fleshy earth. It feels for sprouts, for the planetary pull, for the tangible essence of life itself.
Taurus, or ‘Torus’ (meaning protrusion, akin to the protective barrier of the cerebellum), is the fixed modal expression and the first of the earthy trigon. Here, nature’s visual manifestation and objective fruition takes precedence. Yet the manifestation of this growth is steady, seemingly unswerving, and connecting to a vast reservoir of internal spaciousness. What, then, are the fertile Bull’s lessons? As the timeless simplicity nestled in the infinitely complex, its lessons bestow the embodiment of depth without the necessity for verbal translation. Excavating and maintaining profound serenity is the Venusian Bull’s task.
Taurus Decan I: The Industriousness of Venus and Mercury
At 1°13′ Taurus, this Full Moon’s first decan is surveyed by Venus and Mercury, engulfed in the quickening, germinating powers of silent thought and assimilation. Its chief cerebral characteristics are industry and application, and its material fecundity is firmly forged in the imagery ascribed to Taurus’s first decanate. Agrippa illustrates the ascension of a ‘Harvester or Husbandman, goeth forth to plough, build, people [populate] and divide the earth, according too [sic] the rules of Geometry…’ The Bull’s laboriousness is echoed in Picatrix, painting ‘a face of plowing and working the earth, of sciences, geometry, of sewing seed, and making things. And this is its form.’ As necessity summons form, Taurus is the first emanation of matter in its most etherealized, feminine expression. Thus, the Taurean full Moon embodies the consciousness of Divine selfhood: the spiritual reality within our conception.
In this lunation, the patient industry of Venusian Taurus is curiously stirred by the conjunction by erratic Uranus. At less than 1° orb, the Luna-Uranus conjunction remains the most poignant aspect of this lunation. Upon the intellectual plane, Uranus governs idealized sentiment and imagination, qualities possessing extraordinary abilities in specialized paths. Uranus evokes earnest ingenuity of an unappreciated variety, for its talents and influences are not yet understood by this epoch. The eccentric orb of Uranus conjoined with Luna can summon justly rebelliousness from veritable reformers of humanity. Often, their contempt for surrounding conventionality generates active hostility from those who admire the forms, customs, and opinions of established society. This, in parallel, is part of the energy stirred by Uranus’s prior ingress into Taurus. Operating on sensation instead of action, Uranus in Taurus functions through a Venusian lens. However, Uranus transcends worldly matter, aligning with the elevated realms of thought. The innate incompatibility between worldly desires and transcendental exaltation is the impetus behind forthcoming revolutionary change. Historically, Uranus’ previous Taurean transit, from June 1934 to May 1942, ushered a plethora of revolutionary fluctuations, including economic shifts deviating from the U.S. gold standard coupled with bank closures, the lamentable rise of the Hitler regime, and the Great Depression (to the middle of World War II). In essence, values inherent in materialism were as challenged by the erratic undercurrent of Uranian transcendence as they are currently underway. Now, decades later, we arrive at a similarly pivotal precipice of change. As we experience individual (and collective) dissolution of the tyrannical structure of monetary transaction, newly inventive forms of exchange will be embraced, orchestrated by the principle of self-worth.
In the backdrop of the Moon-Uranus centerpiece, Luna opposes Venus retrograde at 4°15′ Scorpio. Likewise, in their early degrees of 1°21′ Leo-Aquarius, the nodes forge a potent grand-cross configuration with Luna-Uranus and Sun-Venus (conjunctions). As with any challenging aspect, this seeming resistance holds the capacity and potential for growth, considering we harvest the industry and application of Taurean momentum, impetus, and fortitude. Lastly, harmonizing with Luna and poised in his domicile, Saturn serves as a somber compass directing the limits of personal boundaries. Essentially, this tug-of-war impetus, propelled by the nodes, alludes to the dual possibilities inherent in traditional and revolutionary passages.

Fixed Star Mirach: The Sash of Andromeda
The Full Moon in Taurus is poised on fixed star Mirach, noted as the primary star of the Andromeda constellation. This brilliant star accentuates the splendor of fertility via receptivity, feminine power, intuition, and the arts. German philosopher Immanuel Kant, having Mirach culminating with Luna on his day of birth, parallels the influence of this reconciliatory star through his visionary works on the welfare of humanity. Mirach’s Venusian influence on Luna is echoed by Ebertin in its inspirational ‘base for artistic creations, altruism, cheerfulness, happiness, and love of company.’ Mirach grants inspirational influence, ‘making friends easily’, and helped by social spheres. In parallel, Robson’s interpretation of Mirach notes ‘personal beauty, a brilliant mind, a love of home, great devotion, beneficence, forgiveness, love, overcoming by kindness, renown, and good fortune in marriage.’ However, we are cautioned of Mirach’s shadow side: one of self-indulgence and personal obsession. Venusian themes are engraved in Mirach as she unites with Luna, illuminating aesthetic inclinations, intuition, and peaceful meanderings, noted in Mirach-governed natives such as the late rhythm guitarist and vocalist, J. Lennon. 
The industriousness of Mirach echoes the essential nature of Al-Thurraya, the third lunar mansion whose tropical boundaries extend from 25°42’ Aries – 8°34’ Taurus. Positioned in the Mansion of the Pleiades or Seven Sisters, this mansion augurs abundance. Noted by Warnock in Mansions of the Moon, although Al-Thurayya is a positive indication regarding career-based prosperity, beauty, and creativity (again, note the Venusian correspondences), there is a warning against material and metaphorical over-indulgence. 
Taurus and Agate
The Kabbalistical gem of Taurus is the agate, a natural talisman for this lunation or those with the Venusian Bull on the ascendant. Agate is primarily of cryptocrystalline silica, chiefly chalcedony, alternating with microgranular quartz. Historically and culturally, moss agate has been known as the crystal of gardeners and agriculture, paralleling the chief characteristics of Taurus decan I. The laboriousness and fecundity of this Full Moon naturally merge with the properties of agate, fortifying the industrious nature of the Venusian Bull. Red agate is a suitable choice, in color correspondence to the third lunar mansion.  According to the Picatrix, reconciliatory talismans between opposite genders are suitably crafted under the first decanate of Taurus.

Serapis: God of Fertility and the Afterlife
Noted in 777 and Other Qabalistic Writings, at 1°13′ Taurus, this lunation’s decan is ascribed to Serapis (or Serapis), the Graeco-Egyptian deity said to have been constructed as a means to foster harmony between the Egyptian and Greek subjects of the Ptolemaic dynasty. Linguistically, Serapis is said to combine Osiris and the Apis Bull (the sacred bull of Memphis). In unison, Apis is the sacred Bull of the Egyptians, another conception of Taurus. Aspects of the Greek gods include Zeus, Dionysus, Helios, Hades, and Asklepios (god of medcine). According to Gods of the Egyptians, evidence suggests the cult of Osarapis surged prior to the Ptolemaic Period.
Serapis personified divine majesty and represented the Sun, fertility, healing and the afterlife. On top of Serapis’ head is a modius, commonly known as basket or a tall, dry corn measure. This was meant to symbolize Serapis’s fertility attributes and demonstrate his affiliation with Osiris. Occasionally, Serapis is portrayed with a pair of curved ram’s horns, along with instances where Cerberus is placed at his feet.
Full Moon in Taurus
The Taurean lunation, while overseeing the unpredictability of Uranus’s eccentric orb, is simultaneously grounded and exalted. The Full Moon in Taurus embraces the influences of Venus and Mercury, chiefly characterized by patient laboriousness and application. In the midst of Venus retrograde, this lunation serves as an opportune emblem of the forces of fructiferousness. The revelation of matter in its purification process and material fecundity is firmly forged in the imagery ascribed to Taurus’s first decanate. Reconciling matter as the humble servant of spirit, the flourishing of procreative forces in all planes of Nature envelop the earthly consciousness of Taurean endurance.
